The mayor of Cambérène, Doune Pathé Mbengue, is making no secret of his ambition to take the helm of Dakar City Hall. “I am the representative of the people of Cambérène. Soon, I will be the representative of the whole Dakar region. Are you ready? I will see you for the conquest of Dakar. Cambérène is at the heart of Dakar,” he declared forcefully and with conviction. He made these remarks yesterday at the handover of 3,000 school kits to pupils at the Cambérène state school.
On this occasion, the mayor took the opportunity to thank the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, for the trust placed in him by appointing him head of the Port Autonome de Dakar (Pad), which he describes as one of the most important companies in the Senegalese economy. On the political front, Doune Pathé Mbengue did not miss the chance to take swipes at those he accuses of seeking to disrupt the country’s stability. “Let the demagogues go away,” he insisted, thereby displaying his determination to support the Head of State.
The mayor of Cambérène now intends to play a leading role in the conquest of Dakar. He promises to position himself among the main lieutenants of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, with the ambition of helping to strengthen his political camp and supporting him in the run-up to the 2029 presidential election.
Doune Pathé Mbengue also has great ambitions for the Senegalese capital. If he becomes head of Dakar City Hall, he promises to make it a “city of light”. He is also keen to transform the Port Autonome de Dakar into a multidimensional company, capable of playing an even greater role in Senegal’s economic development.
